Short: Cloanto Amiga Explorer Update Author: info@cloanto.com (Cloanto) Uploader: info cloanto com (Cloanto) Type: comm/net Version: 10.0.0.0 Architecture: m68k-amigaos Distribution: Aminet URL: https://www.amigaforever.com/ae/ CLOANTO SOFTWARE UPDATE FILES BEING UPDATED - AExplorer (Amiga side) INSTALLATION - Automatic (requires Installer to be available on system) DESCRIPTION This update set transforms any "AExplorer" v. 1.x to 9.x Amiga program file to the corresponding version 10.0.0.0 file. This update only upgrades the server side of the software, i.e. the Amiga side. This version of the Amiga (server) side software is compatible with all clients from v. 1.x to v. 9.x, and is designed to offer current levels of functionality to future clients as well. This version, like all others, works in either serial (null-modem) or TCP/IP modes. TCP/IP functionality requires a library that is fully compatible with the original (AmiTCP/IP) "bsdsocket.library". HISTORY Following are some release notes for the Amiga (server) side of Amiga Explorer. Changes on the PC (client) side of the software are not described here. For additional details and intermediate versions that only had changes on the client side, please refer to the changelog on the Windows side of Amiga Explorer. Version 1.0 was the initial public release (November 9, 1997). Version 1.1 introduced increased performance and solved a bug whereas in certain configurations, after a timeout, the Amiga side of the software could crash. It also fixed a potential problem with certain serial port settings, where the Amiga side could send more data than the client could handle. Version 1.1 introduced a new option to create a log file, useful to track and report problems. Version 2.0 provided additional functionality, used by version 2.0 and higher of Windows clients. Version 2.02 solved a possible timeout problem when deleting and moving large Amiga files, and introduced support for features to be used by future Amiga Explorer client versions. Version 3.01 solved a software failure problem when setting file dates on Amiga OS 1.2 and 1.3 systems. It also corrected the fact that floppy disks could not be formatted while validating. Version 3.02 solved a case in which a blank or "bad" disk was not available for formatting. Versions 3.5 introduced a new PC-to-Amiga automatic setup option, and a smaller default packet size (512 instead of 4096 bytes) to better support slower systems. Version 4.0 introduced a new UNIT ToolType or command line option to run multiple instances (e.g. one in serial mode and one in TCP/IP mode). Also addressed an issue whereby Kickstart ROM size would sometimes be processed as 512 KB instead of 256 KB (pre-2.0 ROMs). Version 6.0 introduced enhanced compatibility and support for newer OS versions, as well as for AmigaOS 4.0 and MorphOS. Version 8.0.1.0 introduced new functionality for software and operating system version checks and for future client-originated updates. Once these are implemented, Amiga-side patch releases like this one could become less necessary. Version 9.0.7.0 featured an extended protocol to support additional file system operations (random read and write, append, etc.) and system properties (platform and branch, RAM, ROM version and CRC-32, various date and time attributes, etc.), as well as the ability to set the Amiga clock from the Windows side. Version 9.2.0.0 extended the CRC-32 checksum functionality to files and disks. Version 9.2.1.0 removed residual floating-point calculations (no longer requiring mathffp.library). Version 10.0.0.0 added bidirectional clipboard text sharing. NOTES Cloanto has been creating Amiga software since 1986. Thank you for supporting our uninterrupted development work. The Amiga Explorer Home Page is at: https://www.amigaforever.com/ae/ Some of the very first Amiga Forever 2.0 units shipped had a floppy disk which was duplicated before the CD-ROM went into production. On these disks, the "AExplorer" program file is functionally identical with the final file on CD, but has a few differences in the file itself. If this upgrade procedure displays a message indicating that the Amiga Explorer 2.0 program file cannot be upgraded, then please install and upgrade the "AExplorer" file from the CD-ROM ("AF_Disk" directory), rather than the one on the floppy disk.
