Short: X-bEnCh List Generator Author: Daniel 'Daytona675x' Müßener Uploader: Daytona675x Type: util/misc Version: 1.0 Architecture: m68k-amigaos Distribution: Aminet This program scans one or multiple folders including its subfolders for WHDLoad packages, sorts that list and somewhat beautifies the names (wip, x-bench does a better job here, but it's good enough for me as is). The result is a X-bEnCh compatible list file (list file version 1.0). Essentially it does the same as X-Bench's integrated 'update list' button. So why did I write that prog? Because on my setup X-bEnCh (0.99 R7 public beta) unfortunately fails when it tries to scan a rather huge games folder. It just runs forever and when I finally gave up after about 12 hours and resetted the machine I ended up with the HD validating. Apart from that issue X-bEnCh is a real nice prog, that's why I ended up writing my own list creator to be able to use it on my setup. However, some manual editing is required once you got your list: 1. copy it into X-Bench's prefs folder, renaming it to list1 or similar. 2. edit X-Bench's prefs/launchers.prf file accordingly. Most important: the number of files has to match! I recommend to prepare the desired list-entry in X-bEnCh before. That way editing the launchers.prf file becomes trivial. The scanner runs pretty fast. Some figures from my setup: - demos-folder with letter-subfolders, 214 demos, X-bEnCh: ca. 2 minutes, this tool 15 seconds - games-folder: 2100 games, X-bEnCh: canceled after 12 hours, this tool: 130 seconds One additional feature is the prog's ability to scan any number of different root folders and merge the results into one list. Right now X-bEnCh's update-button is apparently limited to one root folder per list, although the list-format allows for more. Anyway, maybe you find it useful. Do with it what you want. And support X-bEnCh and WHDLoad! Have fun, Daytona675x www.amiga-now.org
