Short: Configeditor for UMS, needs UMSServer V11! Author: Olaf Peters Uploader: Olaf Peters Type: comm/ums Architecture: m68k-amigaos Long: This version of ConfUMS needs the public beta-version of UMSServer v11 to run. It can be found on ftp.dfv.rwth-aachen.de in /pub/amiga/UMS, currently *not* on Aminet! Overview ******** What is ConfUMS? ConfUMS uses the internal functions of the ums.library for editing the `ums.config'. This is done so transparently that once you have started using ConfUMS, you may never take a look at your `ums.config' again. Well, okay, user-, alias- and netgroups-maintenance is not possible right now, but will be added soon. ConfUMS v1.1a will remain the last release to support old v10 of UMS-Server. ConfUMS v1.2 requires at least v11 to run as its vastly enhanced functionability arises directly from improvement of the UMS-Server. A public beta version of UMS v11 has recently been released, bringing as powerful innovations as: * full control over server variables, i.e. Read- and WriteAccess, Options, Aka etc. * variable locking: a secure way to prevent two users from editing the same variable at the same time in a network environment. * config-modification "on the net" - you may edit your personal configuration in an Envoy network environment without actually knowing where the `ums.config' hides. In a local environment ConfUMS offers many functions to comfortably modify your UMS configuration. Three editors are available: for single-line variables, variables that consist of multiple lines and so called "listkind" variables e.g. the expire.grouplist. As stated above more v11 features will be supported in the future, but only if I get some feedback from ConfUMS users! *Simply write me a mail!* Revision history since last public release (v1.1a, 21.07.94): ************************************************************* v1.2 (24.12.94) * ConfUMS requires a minimum of UMS v11 and MUI v2.2 to run. UMS v10 is not supported any longer! * the error-handling has been greatly improved: if a config variable cannot be written to ums.config e.g. due to a locked config, ConfUMS lets you try again instead of jumping back to the main-window. * employs memory pools, thus reduces fragmentation of main memory. * now really respects the login-guide as described in ums.doc * relogin-function: change the user logged into ConfUMS without restarting it. (as requested by Tron on the UMS meeting) * when changing the password, you now have two stringgadgets to enter the new one. Both string have to match otherwise the password will not be changed. (requested by Mario Kemper) * the multiline editor now lets you re-edit a variable by using the "Start-Editor" button, accompanied by the config var ConfUMS.MLStartEditor. * it's now possible to run two ConfUMSes on one machine, e.g. on different message bases or for different users. * the contents of the preview window can be shown in UMS' quoted format. * many "cosmetic" changes, let's call this the "Ellen Betrix Release" (hi Golle :-)
