The programs in this archive demonstrate direct access to the
hardware clock on the majority of Amigas. They are examples
of 'banging the metal', inadvisable unless you know the
configuration of the target system, but they are potentially
useful if you need access to the clock when running another
OS (e.g. Qdos, NetBSD or Linux) or while AmigaOS is turned off. 

The accompanying text file discusses the chips used in many
versions of the Amiga and expansion boards and access to
facilities of the clock chip not available to AmigaOS. 

The programs were tested on both 6 Mb 68020 and Apollo 68060 A1200
systems, and require small alterations, explained in the text, to
suit 16 bit systems like the A2000 or A500. They have also been
tested on an A500+ and A500 with Commodore and third-party trapdoor
expansions. The programs do not work on an A3000 or A4000 because
those machines use a different type of Real Time Clock chip. Sorry!

The files were originally written for part 12 of the Amiga Format
series Banging The Metal (AF133, February 2000) and are released
on Aminet by permission of the author, with the agreement of the
