Patches GameTEK's Frontier v1.06 (Release 5) into StarTrek Mode.
This doesn't change any of the GFX unfortunately..I dunno how to do that
- lots of disassembling involved that I do not think GameTEK would be
amused about. If I *COULD* do it of course.
What it does do, is change most of the text readouts in the game into
Trek terms.. ie :
IMP Courier = Romulan Warbird
Hyperdrive = Warp Drive
Unknown Drive = Q-Drive
Imperium = Romulans
Alot of the BBS advertisments have been changed, as have alot of the
equipment. You should be able to tell what they used to be judging from
common sense and previous experience with the game.
Also, I have changed Frontier to search for savegames in the Assign FRN:
, not DF0:. This saves you from repeatedly clicking through wads of
directories to get to your savegames.
To install the patch, copy all the files in the archive (particularly
the spatch, FrnTREK1.1.pch, and the PatchFrontier.BAT files into your
Frontier directory. Then type "PatchFrontier.BAT" and if all goes well,
the game should be patched, making a new version called Frontier.new or
something.
Then just add the line "Assign FRN: HD2:Games/3D/Frontier/SaveGames/" or
whereever you keep your savegames to your user-startup, and away you go.
NOTE : YOU NEED Frontier Version 1.06 for this to work (I think).
To find out what version you have, use a binary editor like
FileX and search for the string "version" in the file ..
the version number is shortly after that.
