README.TXT	3-OCT-2001

This is the latest (1988) version of Apex for the Amiga. It runs on the
A1000 and A2000 computers. Boot the A1000 version in place of the
KickStart disk. Unfortunately no version was ever built for the A500.

There are also some remnients of a version that ran on a Stride computer.

You'll probably want to read these files to get started:

	NOTICE.TXT
	AMIGA.LST	(describes last minute changes)
	TUTORIAL.DOC
	OTHER .DOC FILES

ADJUST HEIGHT CONTROL

Apex uses screen dimensions of 320x240 instead of the standard Amiga
dimensions of 320x200. To see the complete Apex screen on the Amiga RGB
monitor, you must turn down the vertical gain using a screwdriver to
adjust the V-HEIGHT control located on the back.

KEYBOARD COMMANDS

In addition to CTRL-C which is used to terminate programs, there are some
useful keyboard commands which are not described elsewhere.

The left arrow ( <-- ), BACK SPACE and DEL keys all delete back one
character. CTRL-X deletes the entire line. Pressing the forward arrow
will recover a deleted line one character at a time. CTRL-Z will recover
the entire deleted line.

CTRL-8 toggles between 24 and 48 lines of text (240 and 480 graphic
lines), and CTRL-9 toggles between 80 and 40 character columns (640 and
320 graphic columns).

FLICKER

There is a simple solution to flicker caused by interlace mode on the
Amiga: Turn the brightness down. Besides adjusting the controls on the
monitor this might require wearing sun glasses in a dimly lit room. I use
a tinted screen called "Flicker Master" from T.S.R. Hutchinson. The human
eye perceives flickering of a bright image up to about 50 Hz. A dimly lit
image will stop flickering at about 20 Hz.

Good luck,
Loren
