This is PortalX 1.30 written by Steve Tibbett. It requires
the Amiga OS 2.04 or higher to run. PortalX is an automated
Amiga-specific front-end for The Portal Online System, run by
Portal Communications of Cupertino, CA USA. On Portal is the
Amiga Zone, a resource for Amiga owners which contains over 1 GIG
of Amiga-specific files of all description, message bases catering
to Amiga users, over 20 Amiga vendors who maintain their own support
areas for current and prospective customers, live nightly multi-
person chats, and a very large number of "famous" Amigans whose
names you will know.
Besides the Amiga Zone, Portal offers many other goodies including
zillions of Usenet newsgroups, your own Internet email box,
ClariNet/UPI newsfeed service, a menu-driven "Internet Services"
area, UNIX shell accounts, and dozens of other SIGs catering to
a wide variety of interests.
PortalX can only be truly useful if you have an account on Portal.
However it is not crippled in any way, and you can play around with
it to get a feel for its utility, but you won't be able to make
it login and actually DO anything on Portal unless/until you get your
own Portal account.
But, while running PortalX, chose the "read mail" button to read a long
and informative file about Portal which will answer virtually any
question you could possibly want to ask about the service.
If you read this file and still have more questions, you can send
email to harv cup.portal.com (I run the Amiga Zone), to
stevex cup.portal.com (he wrote PortalX), or to Portal Customer
Service directly as cs portal.com
Again, PLEASE click on "read mail" and read that long info file
before sending mail to ask questions.
Note: Registered users (those who paid SteveX the requested
shareware fee) already have PortalX 1.40, and another higher
version is already in Beta test. Registered users will always
be one version ahead of non-registered users. You get a newer
version of PortalX (after registering) by logging into Portal
and downloading it.
Enjoy!
