MagnumWB V1.0
Requires AmigaDOS V3.0 (V39> to actually do anything

What is MagnumWB ?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Got tired of having to put up with some of the "less flashy" backgrounds
that are out there, so. . .created these. It's really amazing how many
pictures can be converted to ONLY 16 colors and not loose much of their
detail. ^^^^^^^
The backgrounds were put together using royalty free photos and Art
Department Professional's "fresco" operator. The finished product was
rendered on 640X400 size screens. The standard MagicWorkBench palette
was used with the exception that one of the greys was turned to a green.
Eight other colors were added to give the widest possible working
combination.
The following pallette settings where used to maximize colors available
without loosing MagicWorkBench compatability:
RGB settings
----------------
color 1 : 7 : 7 : 7 :
----------------
color 2 : 0 : 0 : 0 :
----------------
color 3 : 13 : 13 : 13 :
----------------
color 4 : 3 : 5 : 8 :
----------------
color 5 : 5 : 6 : 5 :
----------------
color 6 : 8 : 8 : 8 :
----------------
color 7 : 12 : 10 : 8 :
----------------
color 8 : 9 : 4 : 5 :
----------------
color 9 : 7 : 7 : 7 :
----------------
color 10 : 0 : 0 : 0 :
----------------
color 11 : 13 : 13 : 13 :
----------------
color 12 : 3 : 5 : 8 :
----------------
color 13 : 5 : 6 : 5 :
----------------
color 14 : 8 : 8 : 8 :
----------------
color 15 : 12 : 10 : 8 :
----------------
color 16 : 9 : 4 : 5 :
----------------
The above palette does real well with most any picture with flesh
tones being the hardest to get right.
Requirements:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- Any Amiga running WorkBench V3.0
- The following software which is available from off of AmiNet
-- ObtainBTRPens.lha in the util/boot section
ObtainBetterPens is a small patch for the graphics.library
function. ObtainBestPenA() that is used for allocating
a pen. Usually, datatypes.library is the most frequent
user of this function. ObtainBetterPens will make sure the
highest possible percision is used when allocating a pen
(PERCISION_EXACT), so the result will look better in most
programs using datatypes.library. It is particulary
true for Multiview and on Workbench backdrops.
-- ShoveColors_4.lha in the util/wb section
Changes the Workbench palette from IFF file. Optionally locks
all or some pens. Optionally catches Workbench screen mode
changes and updates palette. Used to get more than 8 set
colors.
Installation
~~~~~~~~~~~~
- Copy the iff files anywhere you like
- Install ObtainBTRPens.lha and ShoveColors_4.lha (not included)
- Use workbench's WBPattern program to set the picture you want to load
as background. (Located in your prefs drawer)
When properly installed your backgrounds will look just like the
iff files do when viewed with a picture viewing utility.
History:
~~~~~~~~
My second attempt at an upload to AmiNet. The first was WBKutz.lha
and was a collage of workbench backgrounds that I put together.
Closing:
~~~~~~~~
I've got LOTS of backgrounds and if this package generates any
interest I'll upload groups of them. If anyone is interested in
learning how to make their own, I'd be happy to tell them what I
know. Contact me at the E-mail address below.
