                         Terra Nova Development's
                             Designer Objects

                        Volume One: DINER OBJECTS
                          by Bradley W. Schenck

                           Sample rendering #3

This image was rendered in Imagine using objects from our Diner Objects
Set. Here four images have been composited together, showing a variety of
the objects in the set including a doughnut display, the Wurlitzer jukebox,
table settings, booths and a counter. All the objects and the image maps
used on them are included in the three-disk object set, as well as the
Imagine project used to render these and the other sample scenes.
The Diner Objects set is available directly from Terra Nova Development
for the price of $47.50 US, including shipping charges. California orders
please add $3.44 sales tax. Send your money order or check in US funds to:

What follows is an excerpt from the informative manual that comes with
the three disk set:

This set contains a large number of objects (and some image maps for
them) which all together make up a diner of the early 1950's. You'll
find a detailed Wurlitzer jukebox, utensils, plates, cups and glasses;
the booths, counter, stools and even a restroom are included.
In many cases there are `hi-res' and `lores' versions of objects.
This is to help you when memory is running low and when you want to use a
large number of, for example, coffee cups or plates in a scene. The
`lores' objects look fine at a distance and will render more quickly as
well as saving memory.
The objects are created for Imagine version 2.0. They will also work
with earlier versions of Imagine but there may be some surfaces that don't
render quite the same with those versions. We encourage you to upgrade to
Imagine 2.0, but even if you don't these objects can still be used.
Besides the objects, the first disk has two Imagine projects.
Diner.imp sets up nine fairly complex scenes using a lot of objects which
require up to fourteen megabytes to render. LessMem.imp is a project of
scenes that are simpler and can be rendered with five megabytes. These
scenes are just meant to get you started with a few views of how the diner
is put together.

About the Artist

The Diner objects were created by Bradley W. Schenck, a partner at
Terra Nova Development. With a background in painting, illustration, and
musical instrument construction, Bradley discovered computers in the early
1980's and discovered interesting computers a few years later. His 2D and
3D images and animations circulated through the Amiga community, including
two wins in the 1988 and 1989 BADGE Killer Demo Contests.
Bradley has also written on graphics subjects in several magazines,
including a long-running column in the late .info magazine. With Michal
Todorovic he founded Terra Nova Development and built `The Labyrinth', a
CD-ROM based adventure game featuring (in the CDTV/Amiga version) about
180 megabytes of ray traced images and animations created in Impulse's
Imagine software.
This is his first `Designer Objects' collection. The Diner objects
ave been in the works since 1990, when early versions of the jukebox and
others showed up in the demos for The Right Answers Group's Director 2.
