Here's the first in a series of free update patches to PageStream3. This
update implements more features and fixes problems with the initial
release. The most important new feature is the implementation of frameless
text objects.
Text is still very slow to type and format. (It hasn't changed in this
version.) Text redraws are smarter now so changing text attributes is
easier now.
We recommend not attempting the tutorial lessons until version 3.0b when
all the tutorial files will be included and the necessary features will be
implemented.

CHANGES FROM 3.0 TO 3.0a
------------------------
TEXT:
- Frameless text objects implemented! Just click on the page with the Text
tool and type!
- Eliminated extra text redraws when applying attributes!
- Current attribute defaults are now implemented. (You can now place the
insertion point (cursor), change the font or other attributes, and then
type, without reverting back to Triumvirate.)
- You can now repeatedly use the arrow gadgets in the Edit palette to
change the type size and other text attributes.
- Changed default alignment from justified to left.
- Amiga keyboard shortcuts now work.
- You now get a normal height cursor when you click in a frame.
- Right indent tab are now done.
- Stopped text from being displayed outside of its frame.
PRINTING:
- New custom Epson driver included!
- HP color variants now supported.
- PaintJet problems fixed.
- Some Canon variants are now supported. Choose the Epson driver from the
Printing Preferences' Type popup, and choose the Canon model from the
Model popup. (These Canon printers are similar to Epson printers.)
- The basic 13 resident PostScript printer fonts are now supported for
PostScript printing, but the style variations are not. (ie: Pala
(Palatino) will print correctly, but Pala Italic will not; it will print
as Palatino normal. This will be corrected in 3.0b. Times Italic, Times
Bold, Times Bold Italic, and Triumvirate Bold (Helvetica ) will print
correctly though, because they are in a different font format.)
- Printing Compugraphic fonts to PostScript now saves the generated PFB
versions of the fonts on disk. This solves the timeout problem. See
the NOTES section for important details.
- Top offset problem fixed. (You may need to adjust your offsets.)
- Improvd Floyd-Steinberg dithering.
- TO color percentage fixed for PostScript.
- Collate now defaults to off.
- Do Not Print flag (Edit palette, Object/Edit) now implemented.
- Parenthesis problem (PostScript) fixed.
- Multiple copy problem (non-PostScript) fixed.
MISC:
- Tab key problem fixed.
- Enforcer hits on changing edit palette modes fixed.
- Object selection (it selected the stack of objects) fixed.
- Select and move immediately problem fixed.
- Click click drawing for Column tool fixed, and all click click drawing
made less sensitive. (Click click drawing is the 2.2 method of drawing
objects instead of 3.0's drag draw method and is still supported for
those who haven't learned the new method yet.)
- View Prefrences Scale problem fixed.
- Toolbox Prefs: Pie and Arc are no longer reversed.
- Toolbox Prefs: Opaque/Transparent is no longer ignored.
- Fixed the Set Grid pica problem.
- Font Prefreferencess: Cache settings are now loaded.
- Autoscroll now works when resizing objects.
POSTSCRIPT FONTS:
- Fixed enforcer hits when adding ABF files. YOU MUST UPDATE ALL FONT PATHS
WITH ABF FILES IN THEM OR THEY WILL NO LONGER WORK.
COMPUGRAPHIC FONTS:
- Intellifonts should now rotate/slant/twist correctly.
FILTERS:
- ASCII and IFF FTXT tabs now import correctly.
- PageStream2 document filter now loads frameless text objects correctly.
- An expanded PageStream2.fontlist file is included for greater
compatibility.
BME:
- Trace effect now works with lines and curves. (File requester wouldn't
open to let you save your traced drawing.)
NOTES:
- There are improved help files available for this version in a separate
archive. They were not included with this archive due to space
limitations. The other archive will be available a few days after this
archive.
- The other archive also contains the FontListV2Analyzer utility. This
program will examine your PageStream2 FONTLISTv2 file and add the names
of your fonts to PageStream3's PageStream2.fontlist file so that your
PageStream2 documents can be opened more reliably. (If an alert stating
font ####### not found appears when you open a PageStream2 document, you
need this utility.)
- If you print more than one Compugraphic font to a PostScript printer, it
may still timeout the first time you print a CG font because the PFB
generation is slow. Print to disk the first time you print a CG font to
avoid this problem. Or just print the document again if it times out
because the second time it won't have to generate the PFB. Once the PFB
is generated, you will never have this problem again. (You need about 35K
of hard drive space for each Compugraphic font you want to print.) Note
that printing Times or Triumvirate will not create a PFB file because
these fonts do not need to be downloaded.
- If you get error message 93 when printing a Compugraphic font to
Postcript, Agfa's Intellifont engine will have failed. (We're looking
into this problem now. It usually occurs when printing more than one CG
font that doesn't already have a PFB file.) Click on Ok to allow the
print job to be finished. If it fails and there are more CG fonts to
print that don't already have PFB files, it will put up the alert again
for each remaining font. When it is done printing (it won't print the
fonts it failed on), quit PageStream and restart it. (The Intellifont
engine must be re-initialized.) Print the document again. We are
investigating this problem, but once you have the PFB version of each of
your CG fonts created, you will never have this problem again with that
font. We apologize for this inconvenience.

Tip: if you press Return to start a new paragraph in a frameless text
object or text frame, the insertion point (cursor) will not appear to
advance to the next line. Don't press Return again. It's just a redraw
problem.
